Shearer and Wright left surprised by "strange" news from Chelsea and Leicester,

Chelsea and Leicester City’s recent managerial sackings have caused quite the stir in the Premier League. With Brendan Rodgers getting booted out by the Foxes and Chelsea following suit hours later by parting ways with Graham Potter, both clubs are now on the hunt for a new manager. Reports have emerged that Frank Lampard could be returning to Chelsea as an interim until the end of the campaign, with Martin O’Neill also reportedly in the running for the caretaker role at Leicester City.

The prospect of Lampard returning to Chelsea, the club that sacked him just a few years ago, has left some pundits scratching their heads. Speaking on Premier League Productions, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright shared their thoughts on the matter. Shearer commented: “That’s typical Chelsea isn’t it, for the football club to have sacked him a couple of years ago. I know it was a different owner. But for a new owner to come in and do what he has done and spend that ridiculous amount of money on so many players, which makes it so difficult for the manager, then sack the manager he appointed.” Wright added: “He (Lampard) will be hoping to show people that he still has what it takes, but it is strange. We saw with Palace bringing Roy Hodgson back. With Leicester, I am hearing Martin O’Neil might be coming back. I don’t know, maybe it’s bringing the old guys back to save them. I don’t know what’s going on, at the moment.”

The Premier League has seen a record-breaking 13 manager sackings this season, with more potentially on the horizon. This is causing panic among owners, who are either worried about losing their Premier League status, missing out on Champions League football, or because there is just pure chaos inside their four walls. The fact that the tenure of managers is getting shorter and shorter is further proof of this.

It remains to be seen whether Lampard or O’Neill will be appointed by Chelsea and Leicester City respectively, but one thing is for sure – the Premier League season continues to write a Hollywood-worthy script.
